"We Make Riding Fun!"

Celebrating over 20 years of making riding fun! Located in Middletown, Vernon, Essex, & Berlin.

Join Pedal Power for an overnight Bikepacking trip July 29th & 30th.

What is this Bikepacking trip? We are planning on departing from Pedal Power Essex at 9AM on Saturday, July 29th. Our ride will be approx 40mi on the road to Rocky Neck State Park. The route is still being finalized, but the ride will be very relaxed & casually paced, with plenty of stops for breaks & water. We'll camp overnight at Rocky Neck & Pedal Power will provide a cook-out styled dinner on Saturday (no need to bring a stove). The following day, we'll strike camp, pack up, stop somewhere along the way home for breakfast, & finally arrive back at Pedal Power Essex around 1 or 2pm.

Sounds great! What do I need to participate?

  • You are required to wear a CPSC approved cycling helmet & sign our group-ride waiver.
  • All riders need to have a bicycle in good working order that is able to carry all of your gear (racks, frame bags, etc). Unsure whether your bicycle will work or if you have the right gear for touring? Please don't hesitate to contact us & we can help you pick out what you need. Since we will be riding primarily on paved roads, we recommend using a road, touring, cyclocross or fitness-style hybrid bicycle.
  • You should be comfortable riding 40-50mi with your bicycle loaded with your gear. If you've never done so, taking a few practice rides fully loaded is highly recommended to learn how your bicycle handles with the extra weight.
  • Tent or bivy & sleeping gear, clothes to be comfortable on the bike and in camp whatever the weather, a towel for the beach (there are showers available at the camp too), lunch, snacks, water, cash (if you want to stop for snacks along the way & for breakfast the following morning), any other items you feel you will need to survive in the 'wilds of Rocky Neck' for 24hrs. Need more info on specific things for camping? Give us a call & we'd be happy to have one of our bikepacking experts make recommendations.

Ok, sounds like fun! What else do I need to know?

  • Due to restrictions & rules of Rocky Neck State Park, we are capping our available spaces to 15 participants. This event will happen rain or shine, and there are no refunds due to "rain or poor weather".
  • The cost to register for this event is $30, and can be paid to Pedal Power. Simply stop in or give us a call & pay via phone to reserve your space.
  • Your registration with Pedal Power must happen no later than March 25th. Rocky Neck's camp sites get filled up quite early, so we need to make sure we register in a timely manner.

We are still finalizing our routes for this ride, and will post them here as soon as they are completed.
